| Robert J Murray explains his motivation... |
My art is a visual diary of everyday things.
Small objects and creatures dominate my images, as does my personal view of their importance. Living creatures and plants play major roles in my art. They personify Life in many forms - sometimes obviously, sometimes subliminally, sometimes blatantly, sometimes by mere suggestion.
I use my life experiences as a scrapbook of information. I am awed by the sensations aroused by touch...the granual surface of sandstone, of clay bricks...the smoothness of river stones...the rough-and-tough sturdiness of ironbark bark...and the absolute tactile sensuality of a woman's thigh.
The viewer of my works must perceive what he or she wants to see. I only describe my own point of view.
After all, 'TO KNOW WHAT YOU FEEL, AND TO FEEL WHAT YOU KNOW' is not just what good education is about - it is also what good communication is about.
Art in all its forms is a powerful educator as well as a source of communication and spiritual uplifting. I also believe that ART is the pursuit of excellent, and derives its primary source from INSPIRATION.
