| Das Neumann Haus - The Neumann House Laidley, Queensland, Australia |
This striking building was constructed on its present site in 1893 by Mr Hermann Neumann, a German immigrant who arrived in Australia in 1885. Originally from Stettin- East Prussia, Hermann's trade was carpentry and cabinet-making, and some of his work was displayed in London's Australia House. His hobbies included making church furniture and violins.
Originally this building had a furniture showroom and factory attached, along with additional living quarters. Thesedays, it is used as the centre of Arts and Tourism for the Laidley Valley after being donated by the Neumann family in 1980. Picnic tables grace the grounds under huge jacaranda trees, and the walls inside host some of the finest examples of the work of local artists.
Das Neumann Haus is open to the public.
